A quick lesson in Swahili (and a drop of Maasai)

Did you know that most names in The Lion King were actual Swahili words? I didn’t. Here’s a few more to add to your vocabulary in case you ever find yourself in Kenya. A few words in their native language will take you a long way with the locals.

English Swahili/ Maasai
Hi! / What’s up? (locals) Sasa / Sopa
Hello! (foreigners) Jambo
Good Mzuri or Poa / Yepa
Friend Rafiki
Lion Simba

Thank you Asante
No problem Hakuna matata

Come on, don't be shy, talk to me...
